September 2010: Sheldon J. Stark was appointed Distinguished Visiting Professor by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. He teaches Pretrial Litigation and Advanced Pretrial Litigation. Advanced Pretrial Litigation is in the school’s Law Firm Program (LFP), which simulates practice in a law firm. Shel Stark was a guest on “We Can Work It Out,” the local access cable show hosted by Earlene Baggett-Hayes. Titled “What is Mediation, Part 1” and “What is Mediation, Part 2,” Shel and Earlene discussed the mediation process and how it works, identified the virtually endless list of disputes that can be successfully mediated, described the benefits of mediation over other forms of dispute resolution such as arbitration and trial, and laid out techniques used by mediators where the parties are separated by strong emotions, arguments over money or the need for relationship repair.
